THE TRUTH ABOUT READING
An Open Letter From John Corcoran
My years of passion and advocacy for literacy have great meaning to me. After all these years, I still can't stop advocating and working to change things so other little boys and little girls don't suffer unnecessarily like I did.
Recently I've been involved in planning for this literacy documentary that will include my story. Having 65% of 4th graders in the US lacking proficiency in literacy is a national shame. We have a superstar line up of experts to interview, tasked with outlining the problem and solution. Educators who have shown the kinds of gains that are possible and former/current struggling readers have committed to participate too. This monumental project has the potential to change the face of literacy in our country and beyond!
We are currently working to raise funds for this film and, along with your moral support, would appreciate any donation to the project if you feel moved to do so. Your enthusiasm, energy, and willingness to help us spread the word about his film would also be greatly appreciated! Together, we can make a significant difference.
Here is a 1 minute video that will give you a glimpse of the work of Nick Nanton, the film's superstar Emmy award winning director and producer.
This documentary is a dream come true for me, combining awareness of this issue with meaningful action to fix it. I see it as the beginning of a powerful movement that will expedite the progress to 95-100% of our society, children and adults, being highly literate. We can do it...you, me, and all who are passionate about high level literacy for all.
When I learned about the documentary film being developed in partnership with the John Corcoran Foundation which will reveal truths about illiteracy and sub-literacy, I realized what an important message this will bring to parents, educators at all levels and the general public.....worthy of widespread support. The literacy situation is a national disgrace. We have the tools to teach our children to read. Let's do it!

How thrilling to learn of this effort by the John Corcoran Foundation and EBLI as they create a national literacy movement. With dismal statistics for readers on proficiency tests throughout the U.S., it is critical that effective change is made to the way we teach reading and the way teachers are taught. I proudly support this effort to continue the mission of teaching the world to read.

We felt privileged to be able to donate to such a worthy cause. The pain of sub-literacy and illiteracy is a scourge on our country. There is a solution and this documentary will bring the awareness needed to help so many.
